Did you know art/makers studios are peppered all over Mid-City? We’re beginning to create quite the little arts district! We’re envisioning this event as somewhat of a bar crawl, but make it art! Think: white linen night, minus the galleries, and going directly to the source. This is an exciting and rare opportunity for clients and collectors to meet the artists and tour their spaces, to see how/where the magic happens! -Skipping inflated commission markups and purchasing directly from the artist. Win/Win. FYI: Artists, we are creating a visual map of studio locations. If you can participate on the designated day, and open the doors of your studio or in-home workspace to the public, we will promote your art and business! Your address and a brief description of your work will be displayed on our website and added to the map. Please fill out the application on this page to be considered.

2) H. GRACE BOYLE SCULPTURE+ 4518 PALMYRA ST

H. Grace Boyle has a deep connection with stone carving. After finishing her first marble sculpture in 1997, she realized that, despite it being taxing to work, she had an ability for bringing forms out of the stone. She makes assemblages by pairing her carvings with repurposed objects and materials. These pieces rely heavily on metaphors to communicate her ideas. She also uses the human figure and figural fragments as vehicles for her expression. Fabricating public sculpture is another mode of making in which she invests her creative efforts. Two of her large scale public works are on Power Blvd in Kenner LA., and one on Loyola Dr., also in Kenner.

Puddle Clayworks Working primarily in ceramics, Puddle Clayworks believes in the importance and beauty of handmade objects. The process of creating ceramic work enables them to slow down and connect with the material in a meditative way, creating functional and sculptural objects that leave traces of the human hand -something we are desperate to hang on to.

Kathy Rodriguez uses the ancient painting medium of encaustic combined with hair, gold leaf, a specially-made decoction of honey and herbs, and the lowly method of Xerox transfer in these mixed media prints. I combine high and low, “water and stones,” in imagery based in depictions of astronomical phenomena like cloud forms and eclipses. To me, these symbolize transience and movement, as well as the elemental nature of my preferred medium of painting. In a way they are alchemical studies, but they are also visual spells for growth, change, and infinite beginnings. I attempt to literally transform rock and resin into golden imagery in the spirit of the alchemical quest to transform base materials into fine art.
